Dancing Turtle’s fun educational programs for kids, teens, and adults introduce the turtles we share our planet with and invite an active role in the conservation of our shelled friends and their habitats.
Adirondack Turtles (60-90 minutes, for all ages) – Get a glimpse into the fascinating lives of freshwater turtles and their unique history and anatomy. Meet ambassador turtles from the Adirondacks and beyond. Find out why turtles are disappearing and what you can do to make sure we have turtles to love for generations to come.
Turtle Safety Squad Crossing Clinic (90 minutes, for all ages) – Every year, in late spring and early summer, freshwater turtles leave their lakes, rivers, and ponds to lay their eggs on land, and many are injured or killed when they cross roads. In this hands-on clinic, learn safe handling techniques to help a turtle across the road or contain an injured turtle for transport to a wildlife rehabilitator. Our ambassador turtles will be on hand for demonstration as well as some of our non-native rescues so you can practice.
Totally Terrific Turtles (45-60 minutes, for kids 5-13 years old) – Our school and camp program introduces kids to the natural history of turtles in an informal and interactive way. We share our weirdest turtle facts (like how turtles breathe through their butts in winter) and show off our ambassador turtles to keep the kids engaged. We also bring one of our non-native rescues so kids can pet a turtle.
Turtle and Wetland Conservation (90-120 minutes, for adults) – This research-based program is designed for land- and lake-use stakeholders interested in wetland habitat restoration or conservation in northeastern New York. The program introduces our turtle ambassadors as charismatic members of healthy lake and marsh ecosystems. The presentation includes turtle natural history and life cycle considerations, the role of turtles in wetland ecosystems, and conservation challenges. The presentation will also address
Dancing Turtle Rescue and Education Program, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to outreach and education to promote conservation of turtles and their habitats. While we do not have a set cost for our programs, we appreciate an honorarium of at least $75 per event, which supports the care and feeding of our educational ambassador animals as well as our wild turtle rehabilitation program.
